Things I am learning each day about his hospital stay...

  • Stomach bile is a perfect, beautiful chartreuse color that has unbelievable dyeing capabilities. It can not only dye fabric, but porcelain and tile as well. If someone were to harness the key ingredient they could give RIT a run for their money!
  • A typical catheter for a male is 18-20 inches long. Go ahead, just think on that little tid bit for a while.
  • You can blame being abruptly and abrasively awakened each morning at 3a.m. "to just take a little blood" on your doctor, NOT the hospital rituals. Apparently, the doctors like to have all lab work waiting for them when they arrive for rounds first thing in the morning...
  • They don't allow alcohol in the patient's room...even if it's not for the patient, but his wife's sanity. (Wink.)
  • Never fails, when I decide/remember to go grab a bite downstairs is when they close down the various grills that cook semi-good food...leaving the only culinary options of either the garden salad made 10 hours ago in a plastic container or the pre-packaged egg, chicken or tuna salad sandwiches. I shouldn't be complainin'. I am already in a great place to treat food poisoning.
  • Another catheter tid bit to ponder: There is a cream available that numbs the site of a catheter. Do they not realize they have an Over Night Success if wives find out about this product?!

It's only day three. I am sure I will be learning many more interesting facts to post during Big Shooter's stay. In the mean time, do any of you have hospital tid bits to share?

Love Note to my Big Shooter: Third Day = Really Bad Day. But you, like on every other Bad Day, buckled down and got through it. You are amazing. Absolutely amazing. I am so proud of you.

Post Note Added: Please do not feel I am complaining! I am so humbled my fam and friends have made it possible to spend this time with Big Shooter without worrying about anything else. He is doing great today. I was just trying to finding humor in everything yesterday. It made some of the unpleasantness, less unpleasant.

Oh friend, hang in there! You are being and excellent wife to your Big Shooter right now just by being at his side. (If our Crazy Kid Spring Weekend Schedule allows, I'll try to sneak you some decent food and/or alcohol in the next few days.) Please try to squeeze in a nap or two of your own if you can.

Somewhere along the line I probably mentioned "This is it" the "recovery part" Ya just gotta give the body time and full concentration to help heal...

Bye the Bye...as dads do...give advice...get some sleep...don't worry about the the Dr's golf game...this is their routine and be thankful.

Hospital Tidbit....
Shaughnessy hospital....Vancouver, BC....1979.."back in the day"...with five hospital roommates...alcohol?...it was on the menu...and a war Vet pushing a cart selling the stuff from the hall...
Keep an eye out for the Vet
